Study Abroad Program Florence

Europe is a continent of many contrasts. Home to a wide variety of beautiful countries and every climate you can imagine, it is a top location for students who want to travel for their education. When looking to study abroad, Europe should be a place to consider because there are simply so many different countries there with so many different things to offer. There is something for every type of student, from international law to culinary arts and everything in between.

One of the most popular cities to study in is Florence, Italy. Why? Well, the diversity of what you study here is endless. It has so much history in so many different areas that it is an obvious choice if you really look at it. Some of the fields that you could study are:

Art - Florence has a legendary artistic heritage

Language - Gorgeous language

Literature - Home to some of the greatest literary figures in history

Music - Florence became a significant musical centre during the Middle Ages and music and the performing arts remain an important part of its culture

Cinema - Florence has been a setting for numerous works of fiction and movies

Food - Florentine food grows out of a tradition of peasant eating rather than rarefied high cooking. The vast majority of dishes are based on meat.

Research - Many research institutes and University Departments are located within the Florence Area and within two campus recently developed at Polo di Novoli and Polo Scientifico di Sesto Fiorentino

Science - Florence has been an important scientific centre for centuries, notably during the Renaissance, where there was a great period of discovery and innovation, with scientists such as Leonardo da Vinci.

Fashion - Florence being historically the first home of Italian fashion

Just imagine walking cobblestone paths and viewing breathtaking architecture from ancient times, or learning how to cook real Italian food at a Tuscan villa.

There are other great places as well:

  • You could study international banking in Switzerland, or
  • History in Prague

Another very popular reason students study abroad is to learn a language in order to teach it or become a translator. Studying language abroad is called immersion study, and is perhaps the best way to learn.

How do I go about get into a program?

If you want to study abroad in Europe, speak with an advisor at your school who handles this issue. He or she can inform you of the available programs the university offers and which are recommended for your education and career goals. They can also help you with any financial aid or scholarship programs that are available to help with the cost of overseas study. There may also be grants for qualifying students who cannot afford to study in Europe without assistance.

Often when North American students travel to Europe for study programs, they stay at a University or college like dormitory with other students. There may be others from the United States who are taking the same program, they could be from your school or a school across the country from you.

How long will I be there?

The duration of study abroad programs varies. There are:

  • Full summer programs
  • Semester programs
  • Programs of other lengths, as in a full year or even two

No matter what you are majoring in at your university, there is most likely a study program in Europe that would enhance your education.

Studying abroad is a great way to not only learn about other cultures but to meet new friends you may keep in touch with for a lifetime
